Ofiary to utwór Ajschylosa, jednego z najwybitniejszych, obok Sofoklesa i Eurypidesa, tragików ateńskich. Powszechnie uważany za rzeczywistego twórcę tragedii greckiej. Ofiary, znane również pod nazwą Ofiarnice, to druga część Oresteji, czyli trylogii starogreckich tragedii autorstwa Ajschylosa.
Część ta jest spełnieniem za­powiedzianej zemsty Orestesa. My­ślą o zemście żyje siostra Orestesa, Elektra, która czeka na zjawienie się brata, przebywającego na dwo­rze królewskim w Fokidzie. Po­jawiwszy się, Orestes używa pod­stępu, opowiada matce, która go nie poznała, że Orestes nie żyje. Klitajmnestra pragnie zjednać so­bie przybysza i zaprasza go do pałacu. Tutaj dokonuje się zemsta, której ofiarą pada najpierw Ajgistos, później Klitajmnestra. Zbrod­nia jej pociągnęła za sobą zbrodnię Orestesa, który świadomy swe­go okropnego czynu wie, że nie zazna spokoju, dopóki nie nastąpi oczyszczenie i dopóki nie uzyska przebaczenia bogów. Prześladują go gniewne, złe i mściwe Erynie.

Antyczny dramat Sofoklesa to tragedia Elektry, która wraz z bratem Orestesem mści się za śmierć swego ojca Agamemnona, zamordowanego przez żonę Klitajmestrę i je kochanka Ajgistosa. Elektra wraz z Orestesem po 7 latach, które upłyną od tego morderstwa, z zimną krwią zaplanują śmierć matki - mężobójczyni. A potem wykonają na niej wyrok, po czym zgładzą także Ajgistosa.
Czyn rodzeństwa stanie się nie tylko wyrazem miłości do zmarłego ojca, bólu po jego stracie i nienawiści do morderców, ale także spełnieniem obowiązku wobec duszy zmarłego. Elektra jest bardzo podobna do innej bohaterki Sofoklesa - Antygony. Obie mają te same cechy charakteru: dumę, bezkompromisowość i odwagę.
