Die 13jährige Nelly Klabund ist stinksauer! Gegen ihren Willen soll sie die Sommerferien mit ihren Eltern in Rumänien verbringen. Gleich bei der Anreise läuft so einiges schief - das Flugzeug landet außerplanmäßig mitten in der Walachei und dann verrät der vermeintliche Reiseleiter Holzinger Nelly aus Versehen ein Geheimnis: Familie Klabund soll schon bald ins rumänische Siebenbürgen ziehen, da Nellys Vater hier einen tollen neuen Job annehmen wird. Nelly ist geschockt! Wie konnten ihre Eltern sie nur so hintergehen? Ihr ganzes Leben soll sie aufgeben - ihre Freunde, die Schule, den Skatepark? Niemals! Nelly dreht durch, rennt weg und irrt verloren durch eine fremde Stadt mitten in Rumänien. Dabei läuft sie geradewegs in die Arme von zwei wirklich zwielichtigen Gestalten. Die beiden entpuppen sich als die fiesen Schurken Hokus und Iancu, die Nelly entführen und in einem entlegenen Romadorf verstecken. Dort lernt Nelly eine ihr unbekannte Welt kennen und freundet sich mit dem geheimnisvollen Tibi und dessen Schwester Roxana an. Als die beiden Nelly zur Flucht verhelfen, geht das Abenteuer aber erst richtig los: Es beginnt eine wilde Verfolgungsjagd durch Transsilvanien, denn die Entführer, die im Auftrag eines skrupellosen Unternehmers handeln, geben noch lange nicht auf...
