Das Sachlexikon ist im Frühjahr 2007 als dritte aktualisierte Neuauflage erschienen. Es versucht eine Gesamtdarstellung der deutschen Geschichte schlaglichtartig und im Zusammenhang zu liefern. Die Schlüsselwörter beziehen sich hauptsächlich auf herausragende Persönlichkeiten, auf Ereignisse und Entwicklungen, die ihre Epoche geprägt haben, und Begriffe, in denen sich wichtige Strömungen widerspiegeln. Jedes der 17 Kapitel beginnt mit einer zwei- bis vierseitigen Einführung und verschafft damit einen Überblick über den jeweiligen Zeitabschnitt. Die nachfolgenden 500 Einzeltexte sind selten länger als eine Seite und enthalten Querverweise zu anderen Kapiteln. Dadurch gelingt es immer wieder Bezüge und Zusammenhänge herzustellen. Auch die vielen, meist farbigen Fotos und Zeichnungen animieren dazu, weiter zu blättern und weiter zu lesen. Man kann sich dem umfassenden Sachbuch auf vielfältige Weise nähern: Über das ausführliche Personen-, Sach- und Ortsregister kann schnell gesucht und gefunden werden. Die vielen Bilder, Grafiken und Karten laden dagegen zum Verweilen und Durchblättern ein, verleiten zum Lesen und machen so aus dem Lexikon eine anregende Lektüre. Die kurzen Kapiteleinführungen verschaffen einen schnellen Überblick über die verschiedene Epochen der deutschen Geschichte. Insgesamt ergibt sich eine kompakte und interessante Darstellung der deutschen Geschichte von den Anfängen bis zur Gegenwart, wobei hier viel über die innen- und außenpolitische Situation Deutschlands zu erfahren ist. Der letzte Abschnitt widmet sich der Fußballweltmeisterschaft im Sommer 2006.
