Ein außergewöhnliches Werk der zeitgenössischen Abenteuerliteratur. Auf der Suche nach Arbeit fährt Steve per Anhalter in den hohen Norden Kanadas. Er findet sie - als Truckfahrer in einer Goldmine. Schnell lebt er sich in die Gemeinschaft der Minenarbeiter ein, beobachtet jedoch, dass der Leiter der Mine, ein gewisser Donnessy, sich heimlich während der Nacht im Labor für die Goldreinigung zu schaffen macht.
